Summary

The band receives an invitation to perform at Colonel Webb’s house in Chapter 23. At the Webbs’ house, Pruitt behaves irresponsibly and is difficult to work with. Simon tells Doris he wishes he could strangle Pruitt. Simon cannot resist dancing with Doris in front of everyone. This sends Colonel Webb in a rage. He threatens Simon after the dance and Simon stands up to him. Before leaving, Simon warns the colonel that he knows about the money the colonel is stealing from the army. The colonel hits him across the face and tells him to get out.
