Summary

Chapter 23

Sia watches news coverage of the earthquake and learns that some thirty people are dead and thousands left without a home. In history class, Mr. Barrows announces that Kyle is launching an effort to raise money and supplies for the victims, as well as volunteers. Sia volunteers though Kyle is skeptical that she’ll really help. Kyle and Sia begin soliciting volunteers; but, Sia feels that none of the popular students will volunteer because she’s involved. Kyle says it isn’t because of Sia but because those students are so self-centered they never take time to volunteer. Sia says she might seek out volunteers from her neighborhood. Kyle predicts she won’t receive any help there, but Sia believes she might collect cash donations. Kyle suggests that Sia ask her parents. She tells him that the family is “struggling.” Kyle says...
