Point of View

This story is told from the first person point of view of five different narrators. Each of these narrators tells his/her parts of the story from the first person point of view. The narrators are Henry, Beth, Kip, Lee, and Ronny. The four men have been friends since childhood. Beth grew up with the boys and was Henry’s childhood sweetheart.

This use of five different narrators works well because it allows each of the main characters to tell the story from his point of view. The reader learns things about each character he would not know if each character was not allowed to tell his story. For instance, the reader knows that not only has Beth nursed a crush on Lee all of her life, but that Lee also has loved Beth and wondered what his life might have been like with her...
