Summary

Chapter 23 – It is 2052 above Silo 1. Keene and Anna meet up by the Georgia stage. The special guest arrives. It is Charlotte, Keene’s sister. Keene receives a text message from Helen, saying she is in Tennessee. He can’t understand why she is there after all of his text messages to her told her to meet him in Georgia. As he heads to the Tennessee stage, Anna tries to get him to stay. He can hear a teenage girl preparing to introduce Thurman, speaking of how there can never be too great a price to pay for liberty. An air squadron flies overhead at the end of the National Anthem. Suddenly, flashes of light can be seen. Air raid sirens go off. Keene realizes it is a nuclear attack. The taste of metal is in the air...
