Juliette's Cell

At the beginning of the story, Juliette is enclosed in a small cell with one window by herself. She is imprisoned for accidentally killing a boy with her touch. She is informed that she will be getting a new cellmate and eventually she learns that his name is Adam. Over the course of a few weeks, she gets to know a bit more about Adam as well as what has happened to society while she has been incarcerated.

The world has been divided up into over 3,300 sectors each with its own ruling person. Sector 45 is the community that is under Warner's control.
