Chapter 24 Summary

Later, Gwen attends Frank's wake. She walks up to the casket and barely recognizes him due to the makeup and what he called his "funeral suit". She knew he never meant it literally. She touches his face in hopes of conjuring up some kind of image that will help her prove he didn't kill himself, but nothing comes to her. She turns to leave and recognizes Jason's voice calling to her. She notices he looks nothing like Frank. Frank had always said he looked like his mother, who is part Wampanoag.

They stand and talk for a few minutes about how uncomfortable these things are and Jason thinks that Gwen should be the one receiving condolences instead of himself. She explains the story behind her departure from the force more than a year.....
