In chapter 29, Shadow Love breaks in, and Lucas sends Jennifer and the baby to the basement. Shadow Love and Lucas exchange shots until Lucas has to retreat to the basement. Jennifer is under the workbench and Lucas gets more guns from his gun safe. Shadow Love fires through the floor from above, so Lucas has Jennifer and the baby get in the gun safe while Lucas goes under the table to load the guns.

Shadow Love fires through the floor again, but this time Lucas fires back hoping it will make the Indian stop firing through the floor. Lucas turns off the electric breaker and runs up the stairs and throws a paint can through the door as a distraction.
