Summary

In Chapter 37, Matthew greets Stephen Proctor, Diana's father, as Diana evaluates his clothing as “all wrong.” Diana invites her father home with her, and he agrees. Stephen says Diana's mother, Rebecca, “is worried sick about the practicalities of your relationship with my daughter” (515) though Diana in their time is still a child. Stephen already knows Diana can timewalk, saying she scared them by disappearing when she was three. They talk about her abilities and Jack and Annie arrive, briefly interrupting. Stephen then asks why Diana is in 1591. Diana notices the compendium, which she had assumed was spinning once because someone was searching for her, but now assumes it could be trying to locate the the missing pages of the Ashmole 782 manuscript.
