Friendship is important in difficult times.

Friendship is important in difficult times, argues Michael Morpurgo in Shadow. While friendship is a good thing in good times, it is especially important in difficult times. In the novel, the friendship between Aman and Matt proves to be vital to the fate of Aman and his Mum, especially in relation to Aman’s friendship with Sergeant Brodie.

Aman and Matt become friends not long after Aman’s beginning school in England. When other kids make fun of Aman and pick on him, it is Matt who sticks up for Aman. The two quickly become friends, forming a bond over enjoying spending time with one another, playing Monopoly, and playing soccer. Aman and Matt soon become best friends.

When Aman is taken away to Yarl’s Wood, Matt is stunned. He knows that what has happened to Aman is not right...
