Chapters 1-5 Summary

"Shade" by Jeri Smith-Ready tells the story of a teenage girl who can see ghosts. All the kids her age and younger can see them, but things get harder to deal with when her own boyfriend dies. She can see his ghost, too, and she's got to make suer he doesn't become a shade.

In Chapter One, a ghost is trying to get her attention. She's doing everything she can to avoid hearing the story of the ghost. This isn't new to her. Aura was born after the Shift, and ghosts of people who were not ready to die constantly approach her, trying to get her to help them.
