Summary

Chapter 16 introduces Cici, an assistant to a flower designer, and Carolyne, a nightlife writer, who both came to Manhattan to pursue careers. They are both 25 years old, “clueless in Manhattan,” and initially bond over a 42-year-old “jerky guy” they are both seeing named Sam (126). Cici meets Carrie at a party and tells her how much she worships her and begs her to be her friend, and they interact several times in this chapter, with Carrie begrudgingly and condescendingly agreeing to meet up. Chapter 17 takes place during a heat wave in Manhattan and shows how dysfunctional people become during stifling temperatures. Carrie starts sleeping over at Mr. Big’s apartment more often because he has air conditioner and realizes that she is getting too attached.
