Summary

Chapter 13 consists of a brief recap of information about Shen Fever. It is a fungal infection that spreads through spores, it causes people to mindlessly repeat rote actions, and the first case of it was documented in May of 2011.

Chapter 14 shifts to soon after Jonathan decided to move away from New York. It was 2011, and Candace had been working for Spectra for five years. Candace and Jonathan stopped seeing each other. Cases of Shen Fever began to be reported in New York City. Candace decided to apply for a promotion to Senior Product Coordinator in the Spectra’s art department. People began to desert the city among fever panic, but Candace did not notice. Candace decided to take a pregnancy test one evening and discovered that she was pregnant, and the only possible father was Jonathan.
