Section 13: Chapters 31 & 32 Summary

In Chapter 31, Seraphina tells Dame Okra about her fear for Comonot's safety and asks her to observe him discreetly. Dame Okra agrees, excited when she learns that there are other half breeds as well. Having been mentally directed to Abdo, he assures her that he will not fail to do what she needs, showing the scales in his mouth that inhibit him from speech. As the night drags on, Josef dances continually. When Glisselda performs, her playing is mediocre, but her poise and presence make for a delightful performance. When Glisselda finishes, she announces that her teacher will now perform, so after asking Lars to keep an eye on Comonot, Seraphina plays one of Linn's melodies with Papa's lyrics, feeling that the three of them are together for a moment.
