Weary of Leper's war talk, Gene yearns for Finny's simpler notion of athletic competition, conflict without strife. Gene finds Phineas engaged in a snowball fight and, despite his protest, Gene soon finds himself swept up in the chaos of winter warfare. Phineas changes sides several times during the battle, his good-natured treachery confusing the loyalties of the battle. The boys eventually unite against Phineas, pelting him with a flurry of snowballs. The fight is ended without a clear winner, but with everyone laughing. Gene questions Finny about the wisdom of such activities considering the condition of his leg, which is now encased in a walking cast. Phineas assures him that he is being careful and that he can feel his bones improving.
Brinker pays a visit to Gene and Phineas. Gene breaks the news.....
