Ana

Ana is an elderly white woman who has lived in the same neighborhood in Cleveland nearly all of her life. She has seen how the neighborhood has changed over time with different races and nationalities of people moving in and out.

Ana watches Kim from the window of her apartment when Ana plants her lima bean seeds. Because Ana has learned to be suspicious living in a neighborhood filled with crime, she thinks that Kim is burying something bad, like drugs or a gun. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Ana digs around in the dirt of the vacant lot after Kim left but discovers that girl had not buried anything bad but had instead planted lima bean seeds. Ana is distraught when she realizes she probably stunted the beans by digging them up and calls another neighbor to help her make sure the beans will...
