Summary

The chapter opens on Benjamin arriving in Fall River on August 3, 1892. He joins John after they get off the train. John leads Benjamin to a storefront where he hires a surgeon to stitch Benjamin’s leg wound. After Benjamin’s leg is treated, they leave the shop and John goes to see his niece.

Benjamin, left alone, comes across a policeman threatening a junk man, which angers him. He punches the officer in the face and goes on his way until the officer begins calling for people to stop him. Benjamin then ducks into an alley and makes his way back to the train station, where he hides in the bathroom until six in the evening.

John then meets back up with Benjamin, taking him back to the house. On the way, Benjamin thinks about the ways he will get John’s message across...
