Chapter 21, "Ben Weatherstaff" Summary

Mary and Dickon work while Colin sits nearby. They bring him things to look at and push him around to show off other things. The afternoon is filled with the new and with each hour the sunshine grows more golden. Colin notices a tree, and asks if it isn't very old. He notices that a big branch has broken off, and wonders how it was done. Colin is distracted by the flash of a red-breasted bird - , the robin of which Colin has heard so much. Mary secretly believes that Dickon has magic, and that he has used it so they would not have to tell Colin about the very tree that killed his mother. She thinks that his magic has been at work all afternoon; making Colin look quite.....
