Chapter 19, "It Has Come!" Summary

Dr. Craven always comes to see Colin after he has a tantrum, but this is his shortest visit, and this time he leaves no medicine or new orders. Colin insists that Mary is the best nurse and the only medicine he needs, and that she will make him well. Colin smiles when he wakes up the next day, and he is actually happy to be awake, filled with the plans he and Mary made yesterday. Moments later Mary is in his room, and Colin can smell the wind on her. She is exultant because spring has come. She throws open the windows and exhorts Colin to breathe in the fresh air as Dickon does, because it makes him strong and Dickon feels that he could live forever. She tells him.....
