Chapter 17, "A Tantrum" Summary

Mary is very tired and falls asleep right after dinner, thinking that she would go to see Colin after breakfast. She is awakened suddenly during the night by terrible sounds, doors being opened and shut and hurrying feet in the corridors. In a minute she knows what it is: Colin is having what the nurses called hysterics. She thinks that somebody should stop him, and just then the nurse comes into her room and asks for her help. Mary storms down the corridor and slaps open the door. "You stop!" she says, and she yells that she hates him, everybody hates him, soon he will scream himself to death and she wishes he would. Colin can't stop. He felt the lump.

To convince him that he is wrong, Mary orders the nurse.....
