Chapter 16, "'I Won't' Said Mary" Summary

Mary is in a great hurry to get back outside after lunch, and asks Martha to tell Colin that she will not be visiting him until later. Martha is fearful of his anger, but Mary is not afraid of him and does not want to stay inside. She runs back to the manor just as the sun sets, eager to tell Colin about her day. Colin throws a tantrum when told Mary will not be in during the afternoon, and he is feeling weak and resentful when he sees Mary. He threatens to send Dickon away if she neglects him to spend time with Dickon. Mary threatens never to see him again if he sends Dickon away. They exchange threats, then insults, and then Colin caps his argument by.....
