It is still raining in the morning. Martha is too busy for Mary to talk to her until afternoon. Martha is stunned when Mary says she has found out what the crying was. Martha cannot believe that Colin didn't have a tantrum when Mary entered his room, or that he wants Mary to come talk to him every day, and insists that if these things are true Mary must have bewitched him. If Martha means magic, Mary knows about magic from India, but says she does not have any. Martha tells Mary that Colin has always been kept in bed and not allowed to walk. He has been very ill two or three times, but he recovered. Martha does not know if he will die, but her mother sees no.....
