Chapter 8, "The Robin Who Showed the Way" Summary

Mary studies the key in her hand, and then slips it into her pocket. She walks up and down the walk along the long wall, looks keenly at the ivy upon it. She sees nothing through the ivy to suggest a door. She is frustrated, but heads back to the house to see Martha after her day off. Martha tells Mary that her family likes to hear stories about Mary and her life in India. She remembers that she has a present for Mary from her mother. A peddler had come by their cottage. Even though Mrs. Sowerby cannot really spare it, she took a tuppence from the wages Martha had just given her to buy Mary a skipping rope. Mary has never seen such a thing.....
