Summary

Part V, Confirmation, continues with Chapter Twenty-Six, “Easter Doubt”. In this chapter, the author uses second-person narration that uses phrasing like “it will bother you off and on” (186) to describe encountering her own experiences of painful, embarrassing doubt during an Easter church service. She comments on how hard it is to gather “all the bravery and fortitude and trust it takes” and then whisper one of those doubts “out loud on the car ride home. ‘What if we made this up because we’re afraid of death?’” (187).
