The following morning, Hump joins Larsen and Brewster for breakfast, noting a thick fog bank on the horizon. At the hail of "smoke ho!" Larsen leaves the table and addresses the assembled crew. Hump can hear the muffled speaking and enthusiastic response but cannot make out the words. Soon enough, he takes to the deck and sees the seal boats being loaded, noting that the hunters have taken their rifles and many cartridges along with the shotguns they use to kill seals. The seal boats begin hunting, and Macedonia again deploys her boats to interrupt the seal harvest of Ghost. A rather complicated but orchestrated nautical maneuver then takes place, and as Macedonia vanishes over the horizon, Ghost comes alongside one of Macedonia's boats. The boat is taken aboard, and the sailors are sent into captivity in the forecastle. Ghost then bears down on another...
