Chapter 25 Summary

At dinner, the Malones talk about revenge and justice against the Crutchfields. When they pray, it is Kaitlin's turn to lead. Kaitlin prays for the Crutchfields, which enrages her mother. Her parents demand to know how Kaitlin knew about Rick. Kaitlin confesses she is dating Bram, and that she saw Rick at Bram's house.

Kaitlin's mother is horrified. Kaitlin goes on to explain that their ancestors are the same. She also explains that Bram doesn't know that she is a Malone. Kaitlin's mother says that when Bram finds out who she is, he will hate her, too. Hate is embodied in both families. Garner demands that all of the nonsense that has been going on stop, and Kaitlin agrees.
