Chapter 5 Summary

Bram and Kaitlin begin speaking every day. The Bookends continue checking Kaitlin out, and it makes her uncomfortable. Bram reveals his finished portrait of Kaitlin, and Kaitlin is amazed.

She sees his signature of B.C. and Bram explains that his name is Bram Crutchfield.

Chapter 5 Analysis

The reader, having perhaps suspected that Bram's appearance is somehow as ominous as it is important, is vindicated. Bram is a member of the Crutchfield family, the very people that Kaitlin and her family despise.
