Summary

After learning of Lucas Slade’s fate, Oletta begins talking to Jesus, and wears the hat-pin as a reminder of the fact that her prayers had been heard. Cecelia is outside weeding the gardens when she hears the sound of bells tinkling. Thelma Rae says hello through the hedge, wearing black cigarette pants, a purple bikini top and a red, filmy scarf tied at her waist. She has cymbals called zills on her fingers that she found at an estate sale and mentions that she has something for Cecelia as well. She leads her into the house to a box filled with things she’d found and begins pulling out one item after another, showing Cecelia the items she’d found. Her friend Buck Preston bought her a compact dated 1884 that was shaped like a fan, telling her a little bit about him...
