Chapters 40-46 Summary

In chapter 40, Ed hires Cupie, a private detective in Los Angeles, to interview a known acquaintance of Grafton's. This interview leads Cupie to a paper maker who might have made a fake identity for Grafton and a female. In chapter 41, Ed sends Russell Norris, an ex-IRS agent, to the Cayman Islands to get information about the account Julia sent Wolf's three million dollars to. Russell uses his past influence to force the bank manager to reveal information about the account, including the fact that a request has just arrived to move the money to a bank in Mexico. In chapter 42, Cupie visits the paper maker and learns that Grafton had the man make him an identity, complete with birth certificate with the name Dan O'Hara, and an identity for his female companion in the name of Frances B.
