Chapters 20-28 Summary

In chapter 20, Wolf takes the cremated remains of his second wife and his business partner and throws them into the wind from a mountain top near his home Later Ed questions Wolf about Grafton, but Wolf does not recognize the name. In chapter 21, Ed and Wolf are drinking together and become drunk. Ed tells Wolf how he was born in a Jewish family, but how everyone in school assumed he was Indian, so he allowed them to continue thinking it was true. In chapter 22, Barbara Kennerly shows up at Ed's office and tells him that she was released from prison unconditionally. Barbara asks Ed to help her find a job and he promises to do what he can. Ed asks Barbara about Grafton, but she has no idea what he has been up to since he was convicted, except for the rumor that he escaped...
