Chapters 1-5 Summary

Wolf Willet is a movie producer who has worked with the same partner his entire career. Wolf has recently married his second wife, Julia, and spends his time between homes in Los Angeles and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In chapter 1, Wolf wakes in Santa Fe with a terrible headache and feeling something like a hangover. Wolf goes downstairs to have breakfast. The dog tries repeatedly to make Wolf go into the guest wing of the house, but he refuses. Wolf recalls that he is supposed to be in Los Angeles that day and prepares to fly his private plane.
