Summary

In Chapter 10, Yoshitsune took a month to organize a fleet in the year 1185 to prepare for battle at Dan-no-Ura. Most of Yoshitsune’s ships were sailing vessels not intended for war. Although the Taira had faced numerous defeats, the battle about to be fought appeared as though it could only end in victory for the Taira. The Taira fleet consisted of 500 ships, including several large Chinese-style ships capable of ramming and sinking. Yoshitsune and the Minamoto believed one of these Chinese-style ships contained Emperor Antoku and the imperial regalia. Meanwhile, a dispute between Yoshitsune and Kagetoki over who would lead the attack nearly resulted in violence between the two, but other Minamoto leaders intervened to stop the almost-fight.
