The Second Day: Hidden Eggs Summary

Esche awakens the next morning to the sounds of Skeetah hammering a kennel together. He shows her the puppies again. There are five, and Skeetah is very excited that so many survived through China's first litter. He turns down her offer to make him breakfast, and Esche goes off to search for chicken eggs on their property. It is revealed that she started having sex at the age of twelve with Marquise.

Junior later complains about having scrambled eggs for breakfast. Esche takes them from him and brings them out to the kennels to give to China, and finds that Big Henry is speaking to Daddy nearby. She and Skeetah go to the grocery store for dog food, that he plans to buy with money he saved up from mowing the local graveyard's lawn. Big...
