Chapters 41 and 42 Summary

The hospital keeps Katie most of the night under observation. Katie waits in the waiting room because Alex's skull is almost broken all the way open. Joyce takes the kids home. When Katie goes back to see Alex in the ICU, he has a bandaged wrapped around his head and his eyes only half open.

He asks how the kids are. He asks how she is and they tell each other they love each other. He asks her what happened and she tells him about the last twelve hours. The next morning, the kids come to visit for a few minutes. Later in the afternoon, his headache is gone and he's more coherent. The following day, Alex is released. The cops question them. The sheriff also tells her how high the alcohol content was in Kevin's blood.

Katie doesn't tell Alex...
