Summary

As the story opens, Layla Weston admits that she really wants Gregory Meyer to die, though she knows it's wrong to think that way. Layla says eighteen days have passed since Holly Reynolds shot Gregory Meyer, Will's father. Gregory is still alive though he's in the intensive care unit. Layla expects that all of Gregory's people are rushing around to do his bidding, just as they would have done if he was able to make demands. Luke, Layla's uncle and guardian who serves the role of father to Layla, has traveled back to Davidson to be Holly's attorney. Layla knows that Holly must be in agony as she continues to wait with everyone else to see if Gregory dies. While everyone waits, there is more information coming to light about Gregory's cruelty and manipulation and Layla says she is pleased with this aspect...
