Trust
In Running Blind, trust is a main focus. Though Jack Reacher and his girlfriend Jodie Jacobs are near the beginning of their relationship, they trust each other because they know they can. Both had been raised in the Army, had grown up the same way, and because of this, there is a basic trust from the outset. The fact that Reacher had respected Jodie's father and had looked upon him as a father figure is yet another reason why Jodie can trust him.
When circumstances lead Reacher to the FBI as part of their investigation, Jodie remains in New York. Reacher is working for the FBI under duress, forced to do so because of a threat to Jodie.
