Chapter 29 Summary

After the cop comes inside to use the bathroom, Rita takes him out a huge mug of hot coffee. When she returns, the visitor is waiting for her at the top of the basement stairs.

Rita greets him as if she is expecting him. He asks if she bought the can of paint. He tells her to smile and to go down and get a screwdriver to open the paint can. Rita complies with everything he asks of her. He tells her to get the paint can, stirring stick and screwdriver and show him where the bathroom is. When they get upstairs, the visitor produces a black garbage bag from his coat pocket. He tells Rita to put her clothes inside.

The plane lands in Portland and Harper and Reacher take a tax toward Rita's house. the cab pulls up to Rita's house...
