Point of View

The story is told from the third person point of view of an omniscient narrator. The characters of focus in the main body of the novel are Jack and Dee. Naomi is the character of focus in the opening and closing of the novel. While this story could have been told from the first person point of view of any one of the characters, it would have given the reader a focus on that one character instead of the Colclough family as a whole. The focus on Jack through the first part of the novel is important because it draws the reader’s attention to the changes in Jack’s thinking and actions as he battles against those affected by the aurora.
