Part 3: Chapter 11 Summary

When Molly returns home, Carrie is waiting for her. Carrie already knows what happened and she is angry. She tells Molly to leave, saying she had disobeyed God's law. Molly resists, saying that Carrie is the only family she has. Carrie is firm, and so with $14.61 in her pocket, Molly sets off for New York.

Deciding to hitch a ride north, Molly fears she will never get there when a car containing a young family stops. She gets in and tells them she is a college student from New York on her way back from a break. They take her into Georgia and give her $10 when they leave her off.
