During the summer before her senior year of high school, Molly works at a local tennis court while her friends Connie and Carolyn take jobs out of state. While she sees Leroy occasionally, she realizes that they have less in common than ever before. When Leroy wonders what married life will be like, Molly decides she never wants to be married, preferring instead to find love that is not the "forever kind."
