Chapters 30-39 Summary

After Jannie suffers a second seizure in two days, the hospital staff are understandably worried about her. An MRI is ordered late in the evening, making the day stretch longer for everyone. Alex's worst nightmare, a life-threatening tumor, is detected. To raise Alex's stress level even further, a man savagely murders a woman in London. The criminal is assumed to be Geoffrey Shafer, the man who had previously attacked Christine and been presumed dead. Alex is worried about Christine and visits her office. Unfortunately, Christine has already heard the news and is distraught. Alex struggles to hold together the pieces of his life. Even though he and Christine are no longer romantically involved, he cares about her deeply and worries about her safety. Jannie's tumor requires brain surgery, which he finds daunting.
