Summary

Ebeneezer arrived just before the foal was born. He went on about everything that needed to be done around the property, which told Charlotte he planned to stay. The foal was born during a thunderstorm. It turned out the mare had been pregnant with twins, a male and a female. Charlotte named the colt Vern’s Thunder and the filly Freedom.

Analysis

This final short section closes the novel by showing that Charlotte’s dreams have been completely realized. Ebeneezer has arrived and has agreed to stay. Charlotte also has achieved her goal of owning and raising horses since her first foals are born. The author indicates her life will be prosperous by having the mare give birth to not just one foal, but two.
