Chapter 9 Summary

The Eusa Story ends, and the community breaks into small groups to talk, gossip and drink. Riddley wanders off by himself. The Big 2 do not linger, but leave with their hevvys after a show of alcoholic camaraderie.

Another show follows their departure, one for which Riddley must prepare by organizing his jumbled thoughts and establishing a new connexion. This ceremony begins with a similar litany, but the show is different. This time, the puppet that appears first is not Eusa but a little man with a pan of salt. Mr. Clevver arrives next and warns the Salty Man that Eusa is on his way to take over the Salty Man's shoar (land). Though the Salty Man tells Eusa to keep his distance, Eusa suggests that the two join forces against potential raiders.
