Summary

In Chapter 1, Kitty learned from her friends that Colette had married Lord Lucien Plantagenet Montagu-Scott, Earl of Palliser. His father was a wealthy man who held a great deal of land in England. Kitty told her friends that Colette was a “spoiled little cunt” (110).

In Chapter 2, Su Yi dreamed she was in Ranakpur, India touring the Adinatha Temple. Jai, a priest approached Su Yi. He told her that he sensed sadness in her and she told him that her brother, Ah Jit, was missing. As Su Yi began to cry the priest handed her a blue-and-purple paisley silk scarf that seemed to contradict his monk’s outfit. He said that Ah Jit wanted to give Su Yi a message. The priest said the same things that Su Yi remembered her brother saying when he was so sick. She tried to ask questions...
