Summary

In Chapter 12, the protagonist goes to the site of the reenactment, which is the same place where the shooting actually occurred. The protagonist speaks to Nazrul and the men playing the shooters. The protagonist says that he will be playing the role of the victim. They reenact the shooting exactly as it was detailed in the police report. The protagonist feels deeply pleased and excited. At the protagonist’s request, they reenact the shooting several times. The protagonist then has them reenact it again at half speed. During the slower reenactment, the protagonist tries to imagine what the victim might have been thinking—and what exactly he might have seen—during the actual shooting. He inexplicably falls unconscious, is tended to by a doctor, and is brought back to his apartment.
