Summary

Chapter 1 opens in London, England. The name of the protagonist/narrator is never stated. He is a 30-year-old man. Recently, he was harmed in an accident, although he cannot remember the accident itself. He was in a coma, but he eventually recovered. He had amnesia from the accident, but eventually, his memories returned to him, except for the memory of the accident itself. He works at a market research company, but after his accident, he finds he has lost his will to return to work. After his recovery, he receives a call from a lawyer named Marc Daubenay. Daubenay informs him that the organization responsible for the accident has agreed to pay the protagonist 8.5 million English pounds as a settlement. The protagonist is unsure how to feel about this fact, but he agrees to the settlement. The settlement stipulates that he cannot publicly discuss...
