Micah Mortimer

Micah is the novel's main character. He lives in a tenement building where he works as the superintendent as well. He also operates a tech support company called Tech Hermit, which involves him in going to his clients houses to help set up and troubleshoot their technology devices.

Micah is 43 years of age. He is unmarried, but he has a girlfriend, although she breaks up with him during the course of the novel. Micah is also the youngest sibling in his family. His lifestyle is strictly regimented and organized. He is described running every morning, washing his dishes soon after eating, and meticulously cleaning his house. He however maintains this lifestyle more so from a fear of chaos and complication than any personal benefit that he derives from his efficiency.
