Part 4 Summary

The fourth segment begins with a story. A year and a half had passed since the accident and Jack's father had been gone for three weeks. Jack had some help out in the field and his little sister, Phoebe, now seven, brought out their lunches. Jack sat apart from the other boys and Phoebe brought him his own thermos, acknowledging the fact that he liked to keep to himself. Though she was just a child, she took her responsibility seriously. She asked Jack if he wanted to say grace before eating and he responded that he did not. In her eyes, he could see the shock and fear and it hit him hard enough to lie and tell her that he had already said grace silently. At this she smiled, reassured. She packed.....
