Chapter Twenty-eight Summary

Christmas has arrived, and Michael and Angel spend the day at the Altmans'. Paul is there as well, but he does not speak or even really look at Angel all day, which is not what she has been expecting. During the reading of the Bible story, Angel wonders what kind of father God would have to be to allow his own son to be born with the singular purpose of being crucified. She suspects that God must be like her own father. When Michael holds the new Altman baby, Angel knows that Michael deserves to have a child of his own, and she realizes that there is only one way she can give that to him. Later that evening, she takes Michael up to the top of their hill and expresses her love.....
