Chapter Five Summary

In the days since Michael Hosea left for the last time, Angel has become more and more discontented. She has begun again to think about the past and to wonder if there was any way out of her empty life. She shares a small amount of her story with Lucky, but remains guarded, careful to only disclose vague aspects of her past. She also tells Lucky that she is not sick, but she is sick of living. She wonders what could have been if she had run away with Michael, but she also remembers what happened the last time she trusted a man's promises and ran away with him. She was fourteen when she met Johnny, and does not want to relive the experience of what happened when Duke had had them brought.....
