Summary

Chapter 7 is titled “The Orient Express.” Alec and Magnus sleep late and Magnus takes most of the day to pack. He insists on a few new things for Alec, including a tuxedo. They board the Orient Express. Magnus has booked a luxurious suite consisting of two rooms and a bathroom, complete with a shower. Magnus insists on tuxes for dinner. They discover a Downworlder party and Magnus is surprised to discover that they are all traveling to a huge party in Venice, to which Magnus is not invited. Magnus introduces Alec to new ideas, including food, and finds that experiencing things with Alec makes Magnus enjoy them as if they were new experiences. They have dinner together in the dining car. When they near Idris, the home of all Shadowhunters, Alec wonders if they will know the moment they pass over the border...
